Ehtasham Anwar

Ehtasham Anwar is a member of Pakistan Administrative Service, a medical graduate, a Barrister-at-Law and a Hubert Humphrey Fellow for Law and Human Rights, currently undertaking National Security and War Course at NDU Islamabad. His last posting was Secretary School Education Department, Punjab. Earlier he had served as Additional Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur, Deputy Commissioner Muzaffargarh, Deputy Commissioner Dera Ghazi Khan and Deputy Commissioner Sahiwal, and finally Commissioner Bahawalpur Division. When South Punjab was created as a separate administrative unit in 2020, he was appointed as its first ever Secretary Education.
As regards his services in the education sector, opening the doors of public schools on Transgenders, establishing Subeh Nau (Early Morning) Schools for working children, introducing ‘Farogh’ – a project for promoting reading and writing habits amongst younger generations. launching first ever online magazine of kids in the country, publishing a monthly magazine ‘Roshni’ for the children of publics schools, organizing SCHOOLYMPICS – a mega sporting event, initiating Schools Hockey League for the revival of game of hockey in the country, constituting elected Students Councils in public schools, converting juvenile jail Bahawalpur into a boarding school, and most importantly introducing Climate Change as a separate subject at schools’ level for the first time in the world, and publishing Children’s Green Book for the purpose, are some among many achievements of his team. He is an avid reader and writer as well and has contributed to national dailies and magazines, both in English and Urdu.
